Time Heals Everything
Selection from Mack and Mabel
Originally performed for "Barnies Shine on Gala" for the New London Barn Playhouse on August 23rd, 2020.
"Time Heals Everything" is about the struggle of trying to forget and move on from an event. To actively try to escape from the pain and the trauma that you hope, over time will go away. But you slowly realize that forgetting what happened to you will never go away.
As a Black Latinx woman, the last couple of months have been extremely difficult. The pain I feel for my Black Brothers, Sisters, and Siblings dying at the hands of police brutality is immeasurable. In 2020 alone 11 Black Trans Women have been brutally murdered and the effects of COVID-19 in the US, have devasted the Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities of this nation.
My heart is heavy. I am overwhelmed and numb at the same time. As much as I want to be afforded the privilege of forgetfulness. I can't have it. I won't have it and I will not endorse it. Too much blood has been split and the pain runs too deep. All this to say, the wound is too big for time to heal.
While singing this song I thought about all the beautiful souls we have lost this year. Those who lost their battle with COVID, murdered senselessly at the hands of police and those ripped from their lives too soon due to ignorance. I will never forget you.
